Requirements
Position Title: WASH Assistant
Location: Der Al Zor - Kasra

Job Profile:
Under the direct supervision of the Deputy Health Program Manager, the WASH Assistant will provide support in
the implementation and monitoring of RI’s WASH activities at all targeted HFs and supported communities. He/she
will conduct assessments, monitor water quality, manage healthcare waste, and support infrastructure
development. Additionally, you'll coordinate training sessions in WASH, IPC, and Health Waste Management,
participate in infection control committees, oversee procurement processes, estimate supplies, and ensure
protocol compliance and coordinating with other partners in the camp for WASH and medical waste management.
Person Specification:
Essential criteria
• Baccalaureate degree in civil engineering, biological engineering or relevant area
• Previous experience in this field.
• Experience in working with the water sector and waste management system.
• Computer skills with knowledge of MS Word, Excel
• Good reporting skills
• Good English language level
• Familiarity with water sampling and quality testing equipment.
Desirable criteria
• Experience in the humanitarian sector preferred
• Previous experience with NOGs.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities:
Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) and Medical Waste Management
• Conduct IPC health facility checklists with medical officers, analyze findings, and address action points.
• Participate in infection prevention control committees, monitor implementation of IPC protocols, and
address gaps.
• Ensure successful implementation of IPC activities, including staff training and adherence to guidelines.
• Monitor segregation, collection, and transportation of healthcare waste, ensuring safe and appropriate
disposal.
• Participate in designing and implementing waste management systems.
• Organize, support, and facilitate training in IPC, Health Waste Management, and Water Treatment.
Water Supply Management
• Conduct physical, chemical, and biological water quality tests and submit weekly reports.
• Monitor WASH activities such as safe water supply, water trucking, and sanitation improvements.
Training and Meeting Participation
• Submit complete documentation for all training sessions delivered.
• Attend necessary training sessions.
• Participate in regular meetings between WASH Monitors and NES program staff for direct feedback and
discussion.
Procurement and Financial Management
• Make procurement for non-medical equipment and supplies required for WASH activities.
• Follow running cost expenditures to ensure efficient budget management.
Other Duties and Responsibilities
• Conduct WASH assessments at healthcare facilities to identify needs and track progress.
• Support and follow up on construction/installation works for hospital WASH infrastructure.
• Provide immediate knowledge and analysis of potential misconduct or procedural gaps, coordinating with
relevant stakeholders.
• Raise PRs for health programs related to WASH and rehabilitation activities and support their
implementation.
• Participate in preparing overall work plans and budgets for WASH activities.
• Address all comments produced quarterly by the MEAL team with observational reports.
• Provide coverage for Health Program Officer responsibilities as needed.
