Education / Experience Needed
• Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering
• Minimum 2 years relevant experience in implementing solar energy solutions for farms
• A good trainer and knowledge about solar power training module design
• Knowledgeable about irrigation systems for farming including water wells functionality
LANGUAGE
Arabic, English and Kurdish are required.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral diagram, or schedule form.

Responsibilities
Job Summary
The Program Engineer for Solar Power will be responsible for the implementation of the solar component of the Organization’s Greener Pastures Program in NES. S/he will collaborate with the farmers, inputs, sellers, local councils and other NGOs in planning and implementation of the project. The Program Engineer will also participate in other relevant ORGANIZATION programme work assigned to him/her. This job requires frequent travel to the field (~3 days a week).
Job Duties:
• Closely work with other project staff for the development of weekly and monthly follow up plans.
• Mobilize and identify farmers within the programme area to equip them with solar power unites.
• Ensure all identified beneficiaries are meeting the selection criteria set for the project.
• Participate in procurement of solar power units and supplier selection.
• Development of a schedule for the implementation of work on the project.
• Conduct baseline/endline surveys for with farmers in the programme area
• In collaboration with Senior Program Coordinator, develop/adapt training modules on Solar Power unite utilization and maintenance as per the project design. Ensure the training modules are appropriate to NES context
• Testing electrical circuits for the well water pumps and determine the required solar unit size that can operate the pumps
• Review, inspect, and test the performance of solar installation and well water pump performance
• Work with installation contractor to help ensure quality and adherence to technical standards
• Testing electrical circuits and checking voltage and amperage to ensure the system performs in accordance with expectations
• Commission and optimize all solar installations for peak performance, ensure that the produced power can run the water well for longest period during the day
• Perform on-site trouble shooting of system performance problems
• Ensure that all installed units are functioning
• Monitor and evaluate the energy performance of the installed systems
• Providing feedback to improve systems design and reliability
• Provide training and be able to support on oversight & safety, and ensure safety codes are adhered to onsite
• Investigate potentially serious situations and implement corrective measures
• Technical acceptance of the installed units for correspondence with technical requirement
• Facilitate training farmers on Solar Power units as per the project needs and design
• As needed, provide technical support to, and offer collaboration with, other ORGANIZATION NES programs who need solar/agricultural support
• Regularly organize community meetings to promote collective understanding and build the capacity of farmers
• With support of Agriculture engineer empower farmers to understand the importance of the agriculture value chain system to promote market linkages
• When possible, attend working group meetings to stay current with NES agriculture trends and to help build a unified agricultural response
• Develop field reports on a weekly - monthly basis and share them with the Senior Program Coordinator and PM
• Work in collaboration with Agriculture Assistant who will attend trainings and conduct home visits with program beneficiaries
• Undertake any other duties as assigned by the Senior Program Coordinator and Programme Manager.
• Be available to the programs full time during times of emergency response activation
• Complete other activities as directed by the Line Manager and performing all other tasks and responsibilities assigned for the benefit of Samaritan’s Purse with a generous and serving spirit.
