Requirements

Job Summary 
The Nutrition Assistant will implement quality health and nutrition activities at designated CMAM (Community Management of Acute Malnutrition)/Targeted Supplementary Feeding Program (TSFP) sites in the Hassakeh Governorate. The Nutrition Assistant will work under the guidance of the assigned Nutrition Team Lead (NTL) to ensure adequate and quality management of moderate acute malnutrition cases among children from 6 to 59 months and pregnant and lactating women, and uncomplicated severe acute malnutrition cases among children 6 to 59 months in respect to the IMAM guidelines and THE ORGANIZATION standards.

The Nutrition Assistant must be a mature, experienced professional, capable of critical thinking, problem solving, experienced in providing detailed physical assessments, attuned to changes in physical status, evaluating clinical progression, capable of making decisions to refer patients to in-patient care, and scheduling and coordination of beneficiary consultations with the necessary specialists. This position requires thorough understanding of the pathophysiology of malnutrition and appropriate treatments. 

The Nutrition Assistant is a prominent position on the nutrition team, and requires an individual with a kind, approachable demeanor who is organized, professional, and experienced in providing nutrition education counselling to beneficiaries. The Nutrition Assistant will communicate closely with the Nutrition team lead, THE ORGANIZATION Nutrition Program colleagues, and other health actors. Excellent teamwork and communication skills are required to excel in this role. This position requires commitment and understanding of THE ORGANIZATION Mission and Statement of Faith, as well as agreement and compliance with the The Organization  statement of faith and policies.

Hours:
40+ hours/wk (Primarily a field-based position that requires daily travel to the field)

Key Responsibilities
General- 
♦ Uphold the humanitarian principles of humanity, neutrality, impartiality, and independence.
♦ Respect the THE ORGANIZATION values at all times, both within and outside of working hours. 
♦ Be prepared to work within rural villages, IDP Camps, and PHC locations in Hassakeh Governorate, and to relocate at short notice.
♦ Work closely with all members of the health team to provide the highest possible quality of care for beneficiaries.
♦ Treat all beneficiaries and their relatives with respect and dignity.
♦ Maintain confidentiality for all beneficiaries.

Technical
♦ Has an excellent working understanding of NES treatment protocols and policies. 
♦ Provides physical assessments of beneficiaries such as weight, height and MUAC measurements to, subsequently placing them into the appropriate treatment regimen 
♦ Complete necessary documentations for assessing, enrolling, monitoring, and discharging the patients.,
♦ Follow SOPs set for work flow by the team leads in each location
♦ Adhere to treatment guidelines and protocols stipulated. Will not deviate without consulting with the NTL/Nutrition specialists (NS)
♦ Communicates clearly and gracefully with the caregivers of children regarding selection criteria, use of nutrition commodities, and follow up plans when necessary.
♦ Provide nutrition education either as groups messaging or individual counseling as guided by the NTL/NS
♦ Attend to critical concerns of beneficiaries. Provide mental and spiritual assistance for beneficiaries who need critical support as opportunities permit
♦ Stay in close communication with all nutrition team colleagues regarding improvement of work flow and outcomes.

Required
♦ Working experience of two year in IMAM program or PHC program.
♦ Experience in health and nutrition programs.
♦ Good relations with other people.
♦ Good capacity to work in a team and flexibility.
♦ Good interpersonal and communication skills
♦ Good writing and presentation skills
♦ English fluency (verbal and written) strongly preferred. Fluency in Kurdish and Arabic required.
♦ Experience working in a refugee context.  

Staff Management 
♦ Not a supervisory role

Security 
♦ Adhere to THE ORGANIZATION security management plan
♦ Report any security incidents or concerns to HPM or security personnel immediately

Communication and Coordination 
♦ Interpret as necessary between Arabic/Local language and English for the HPM and other SP staff. 
♦ Coordinate and Liaise with members of the THE ORGANIZATION health management team and THE ORGANIZATION Operations Team to ensure all objectives of the nutrition program are met.

Education / Experience Needed
♦ Minimum certification in nursing, nutrition, or similar health field required
♦ Two year experience working for an NGO in health care 
♦ Minimum 2 years working in nutrition specialty required, with strong preference given to those whose experience is with OTP/TSFP programming 

Language 
♦English, strongly preferred
♦ Kurdish, required 
♦ Arabic, required

REASONING ABILITY 
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral diagram, or schedule form.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Physical demands will be dependent upon situation and event, but will likely include full days work in villages and/or IDP camps. An employee should be prepared to work outdoors, on their feet for long hours with limited or no access to climate control units.
