Responsibilities

Job Summary 

The Maternal Health Project Coordinator (MH-PC) is responsible for planning, coordinating, executing, and overseeing the activities of the Safe Motherhood maternal health program in Hassakeh governorate in northeast Syria while assisting the Health Program Manager (HPM) develop new programs to expand the scope and coverage of maternal health programs. The MH-PC will be responsible for writing program documents including training records and reports, as monitoring and evaluation documents. The MH-PC will also be responsible for maintaining all patient records, referrals, medical and pharmaceutical inventories. He/she will also be responsible for managing and reporting field expenses allocated to activities of the project. He or she, under the guidance of the HPM, will act as the health point person/liaison between Organization NES and the state and local authorities, non-state actors, and any other relevant stakeholders related to the project. 
Additionally, the MH-PC will manage and supervise staff under the project exhibiting servant leadership. The MH-PC will be responsible for ensuring the daily workflow and treatment protocols are followed per Organization guidelines and within government requirements. This position requires commitment and understanding of SP Mission and Statement of Faith, as well as agreement and compliance with the Organization statement of faith and policies.

Hours:
40+ hours/wk (70% field time expected)

Key Responsibilities
General- 
 Uphold the humanitarian principles of humanity, neutrality, impartiality, and independence.

 Be prepared to work within remote communities in NE, and to relocate at short notice.
 Work closely with all members of the medical team to provide the highest possible quality of care for beneficiaries.
 Treat all beneficiaries and their relatives with respect and dignity.
 Maintain confidentiality for all beneficiaries.

Technical-

Program Implementation: 

• Work in conjunction with the HPM to develop detailed activity and monitoring plans for the Safe motherhood-maternal health program. Ensure plans are strategic and concrete with realistic frameworks and goals
• Responsible for the execution of activities against all set objectives. Ensure the implementation of the project is accomplished in a timely manner, providing suggestion for any deviations  and potential solutions.
• Familiarize with all medical and legal procedures and protocols pertaining to providing antenatal and maternity care in outpatient setting, referral criteria, and reporting.
• Develop appropriate monitoring and evaluation tools and familiarize with the ORGANIZATION  M&E methodologies, protocols and reporting systems.
• Meeting with government, sector leads, local authorities to obtain necessary permissions, access and travel documents.
• Manage finances allocated to project activities under the supervision of the HPM ensuring budgets are spent as planned in line with project activity plans and deviations are explained to the program manager monthly. 
• Upload data into ORGANIZATION  monitoring workbooks periodically and generate reports
• Assist with translation of documents/curricula between Arabic and English.
• Submit monthly reports by the deadline outlined by the HPM.

• Assess, manage, and report critical concerns of partners 

Staff Supervision:
- Provide overall supervision and support to team members ensuring personal and professional development of staff through regular performance reviews and ongoing training
- Ensures all staff are adequately trained and understand their role. 
- Communicates respectfully and effectively with all staff
- Facilitate regular team meetings with the team ensuring team members are kept informed of issues relevant to their work and providing opportunity for feedback.
- Attend to critical concerns of staff and provide leadership for problem solving. 
- Conduct team building activities to motivate, and enhance the wellbeing of staff. 
- Assess, manage, and report critical physical, emotional, or spiritual concerns of supervised staff

Network and Coordination: 
- Liaise and coordinate with regional and local level authorities, NGOs, and other stakeholders to share information, discuss, negotiate, and report matters pertaining to current and future activities. 
- Represent Samaritan’ Purse maternal health sector in relevant coordination groups as well as technical working groups as guided by the HPM.
       
Reporting and finance management: 
- General reports periodically and share with the HPM internally as well as externally as required.
-  The reports are to be accurate and true representation of the achievement, challenge, solutions,   and lessons learned. 
- Submit field expense reports (FERs) according to good stewardship principles and ORGANIZATION  policies. 

Procurement, inventory, asset management: 
- Assess procurement needs for the program, create PRs, and work with the procurement team to maintain a steady supply of material needed for the program. 
- Coordinates with Organization operations and procurement to ensure assistive devices arrive on time and are delivered to the children who need them. 
- Create and maintain tracking systems to ensure sufficient inventories for activities.  

Regularly communicates with the HPM to relay general flow, success, and challenges of the program. 

Security -
 Adhere to ORGANIZATION  security management plan
 Report any security incidents or concerns to HPM or security personnel immediately
Communication and Coordination -
▪ Represent ORGANIZATION  at relevant local level coordination meetings involving local authorities, UN agencies and other NGOs 
▪ Interpret as necessary between Arabic / Local language and English for the HPM and other ORGANIZATION  staff. 
▪ Coordinate and Liaise with members of the ORGANIZATION  health management team and ORGANIZATION  Operations Team to ensure all objectives of the health program are met.
