Education / Experience Needed

♦ Minimum one-year experience working for an NGO in healthcare

Responsibilities
Job Summary
The Nutrition Team Lead is a vital part of the Samaritan’s Purse (ORGANIZATION ) nutrition team for implementing high quality nutrition activities at designated CMAM (Community Management of Acute Malnutrition/Targeted Supplementary Feeding Program (TSFP) sites in the Hassakeh Governorate. The Nutrition Team Lead will work under the supervision of the Nutrition Program Coordinator (NPC) and in collaboration with the nutrition team to ensure the adequate and quality management of moderate acute malnutrition cases among children from 6 to 59 months and pregnant and lactating women, and uncomplicated severe acute malnutrition cases among children 6 to 59 months in respect to the IMAM guidelines and ORGANIZATION standards.
The Nutrition Team Lead must be a mature, experienced professional, capable of critical thinking, problem solving, experienced in providing detailed physical assessments, attuned to changes in physical status, evaluating clinical progression, capable of making decisions to refer patients to in-patient care, and scheduling and coordination of beneficiary consultations with the necessary specialists. This position requires thorough understanding of the pathophysiology of malnutrition and appropriate treatments.
The Nutrition Team Lead is a prominent position on the nutrition team, and requires an individual with a kind, approachable demeanor who is organized, professional, and experienced in providing nutrition education counselling to beneficiaries. The Nutrition Team Lead will communicate closely with the NPC, ORGANIZATION nutrition program colleagues, and other health actors. Excellent teamwork and communication skills are required to excel in this role. This position requires commitment and understanding of ORGANIZATION Mission and Statement of Faith, as well as agreement and compliance with the Samaritan’s Purse statement of faith and policies.
Hours:
40+ hours/wk (primarily a field-based position)
Key Responsibilities
General
♦ Uphold the humanitarian principles of humanity, neutrality, impartiality, and independence.
♦ Respect the ORGANIZATION values at all times, both within and outside of working hours.
♦ Be prepared to work within rural villages, IDP Camps, and PHC locations in Hassakeh Governorate, and to relocate at short notice.
♦ Work closely with all members of the health team to provide the highest possible quality of care for beneficiaries.
♦ Treat all beneficiaries and their relatives with respect and dignity.
♦ Maintain confidentiality for all beneficiaries.
Technical
♦ Work in close relation with the NPC and HPM to create contextually appropriate CMAM activities in assigned target areas.
♦ Assist in conducting nutrition assessments, surveys, and interviews as necessary for program design and modifications.
♦ Create activity implementation plans for each project site ensuring that the plans are effective, deliverable, and feasible
♦ Provide support and guidance to the mobile nutrition team that consists of nutrition assistants and auxiliary staff such as daily worker, community health workers, and volunteers.
♦ Communicate to relevant stakeholders at the local level regarding the program activities, beneficiary selection criteria, etc. to maintain clear and transparent communication
♦ Maintain an excellent working understanding of NES treatment protocols and policies.
♦ Create additional SOPs to maintain good flow of work at field sites as necessary
♦ Provides physical assessments of beneficiaries, subsequently placing them into the appropriate treatment regimen
♦ Ensure appropriate and accurate treatment, referral, and discharge actions are taken for each beneficiary.
♦ Communicate, advise, and counsel the caregivers when necessary about the status of child’s health (or mother’s health).
♦ Facilitates any educational and counseling activities linked to OPT/TSFP. These may include wider health messaging, one-one-one counseling, IYCF trainings, and mother support groups with the health of team members/auxiliary staff.
♦ Fill out paperwork that are necessary for routine tracking of nutrition commodities, numbers of children and pregnant and lactating women (PLW) screened, enrolled, referred, and discharged.
♦ Attend to critical concerns of beneficiaries.
♦ Discuss with the program team and leadership regarding any conflicts that arise in work sites for appropriate resolutions
Required:
♦ Minimum 1 year working experience in nutrition program or PHC program.
♦ Good interpersonal relationships skill
♦ Good capacity to work in a team and flexibility
♦ Good communication skills
♦ Good writing and presentation skills
♦ English fluency (verbal and written) strongly preferred. Fluency in Kurdish and Arabic required.
♦ Experience working in a refugee context.
Staff Management
♦ Supervisory role, oversees nutrition assistants and daily worker under the team
Security
♦ Adhere to ORGANIZATION security management plan
♦ Report any security incidents or concerns to HPM or security personnel immediately
Communication and Coordination
♦ Interpret as necessary between Arabic/Local language and English for the HPM and other ORGANIZATION staff.
♦ Coordinate and Liaise with members of the ORGANIZATION health management team and ORGANIZATION Operations Team to ensure all objectives of the nutrition program are met.
