Requirements
Essential criteria
♦ BSc in Health, Nutrition, Nursing, or a related field with a minimum of three (3) years of related experience.
♦ Diploma in Health, Nutrition, Nursing, or a related field with a minimum of five (5) years of related experience.
♦ Good understanding of community management of acute malnutrition (CMAM) and Infant Young and Child Feeding in Emergency (IYCF-E) programming.
♦ Computer skills, including knowledge and applications of MS Word and Excel.
♦ Strong report writing skills.
♦ Experience in planning and organizing activities in various locations.
♦ Proven capacity to supervise, train, and coach local staff and community workers.
♦ Experience in providing hands-on in-service training.
♦ Strong organizational, interpersonal, representational, and communication skills.
♦ Excellent communication skills, both written and spoken.
♦ Must be very good in written and spoken English and Arabic.
♦ Must have the ability to work effectively with various personalities and cultures.
♦ Must be able to travel within the intervention area inside NES.
♦ Must have the ability to work effectively in challenging and culturally diverse environments.
Desirable criteria
♦ Advanced degree or additional certifications in Health, Nutrition, or a related field.
♦ Experience working collaboratively with diverse teams and stakeholders, including government agencies, NGOs, and community-based organizations.
Responsibilities
Position Summary
Under the direct supervision of the Medical Coordinator, the Senior Nutrition Officer will provide support in the implementation and monitoring of RI’s Nutrition projects in NES and ensure transparency and integrity across all nutrition program activities. The Senior Nutrition Officer will coordinate and collaborate with the Nutrition officer, deputy program manager, medical officers, health facility managers to play a crucial role in planning, implementing, and overseeing nutrition services within the RI Community-based Management of Acute Malnutrition (CMAM) program. The Senior Nutrition Officer will ensure that all beneficiaries, including children and pregnant and lactating women (PLW), receive care and treatment according to established standards and guidelines from WHO, UNICEF, and RI Key responsibilities include supporting and supervising nutrition staff, organizing referrals, managing supplies, and ensuring proper recording and reporting of nutrition activities. The Sr. Nutrition Officer will also be responsible for overall capacity building, including training nutritionists and Community Health Workers (CHWs), and maintaining records of trained personnel.
Planning and Implementation of CMAM
♦ In collaboration with the Medical Coordinator (MedCo, provide overall technical leadership and direction to nutrition activities being implemented in line with the planned projects, work plans, targets, and resources.
♦ Support the planning, quantification, and selection of nutrition service sites to meet the needs of the beneficiaries of concern.
♦ Support and supervise nutrition officer, nutritionists or staff providing nutrition services regularly in relevant technical and management competencies.
♦ Support the implementation of nutrition promotion activities, community outreach, and facility-based nutrition education focusing on IYCF, growth monitoring, maternal nutrition, and dissemination of IEC materials.
♦ Ensure all SOPs and treatment guidelines for nutrition interventions are standardized, in place, and utilized for delivery of quality nutrition care to all beneficiaries
♦ Ensure beneficiaries (children and PLW) receive care and treatment per WHO, UNICEF, MoH, and established standards and guidelines.
♦ Facilitate and organize the referral of sick children from OTP/TSFP sites to stabilization centers and ensure effective follow-up.
♦ Organize follow-up protocols requiring community outreach with OTP/TSFP patients to minimize dropouts and defaulters.
♦ In collaboration with Nutrition Officer, Medical Officers, support Community Health Workers in developing monthly plans for implementing nutrition activities.
♦ Coordinate regular community screening (MUAC) of children under five and PLW with nutrition officer, nutritionists, health staff, CHWs, and ensure recording and reporting of these activities.
♦ Ensure proper management of nutrition supplies, monitor, and report on stock levels.
Capacity Building
♦ Identify capacity and training needs of nutrition officer, HF nutritionists, CHWs, and any other health staff involved in nutrition activities, and in coordination with MedCO plan and organize appropriate trainings to address the identified needs.
♦ Coach, train, supervise and mentor direct-report staff and indirect staff, including communicating clearly on expectations, setting annual performance objectives, providing regular and timely positive and constructive feedback on areas that need improvement.
♦ Participate in developing materials and tools for trainings relevant to RI nutrition programming.
♦ Maintain a database/report of trained and active health workers, nutrition staff, and community health workers involved in nutrition activities.
Recording and Reporting
♦ Ensure proper registration and admission/discharge of OTP, TSFP patients, including ongoing monitoring.
♦ Collaborate with nutrition officer to collect and submit regular data to be entered into the monthly 4Ws.
♦ Collaborate with MEAL department and support evaluation of training outcomes.
♦ Document and share success stories, case studies, and lessons learned comprehensively to track trends and changes timely.
♦ Compile activity reports, including weekly screening data and monthly reports.
Coordination and Collaboration
♦ Develop and maintain relationships with nutrition service providers of RI’s partners at field level, with the objective of representing RI, raising issues from the field and providing technical supervision and support to ensure nutrition services meet set standards.
♦ Liaise and establish strong links with existing community structures, including women's groups and religious groups.
♦ Ensure coordination, referral, and linkage of cases across different partners and CMAM components.
♦ Actively participate in nutrition working group meetings and stakeholder engagements related to nutrition programs.
♦ Perform all other duties and tasks as assigned by the line manager.
